Hey there, you’re listening to episode 141 of the Katie Lance podcast. And in this episode, I wanted to just take a few minutes. It’s just me on the episode here today. I thought we would talk a little bit about this year. I can’t believe, can you guys believe it is the end of 2021? It is around the corner. Holy moly. I just can’t believe it. I feel like this year has flown by. 2022 will be here literally in a couple weeks and so I just thought I would talk a little bit about this year, some reflections kind of personally, professionally, and then just share with you some things that are coming up in the new year that we’re really excited about. So, personally I have to say, and this is gonna sound corny, but I just feel super blessed.

You know, it’s been a crazy last two years with COVID and the pandemic, and I just feel so blessed that we are able to do what we do. You know, our business has continued to thrive and we’re so grateful for that. I know a lot of you know, that I work side by side with my husband, Paul. Obviously at the beginning of COVID we were, we were nervous. We were worried. It’s like, what’s gonna happen. But, and I’m asked about this all the time. And I think what’s interesting is, we were already equipped in so many ways, right? We already work from home. We don’t have a brick and mortar office. We have a virtual team. So much of what we have always done is through virtual, right? Even before COVID I was doing a ton of webinars and virtual trainings, our entire Get Social Smart Academy is all virtual.

I know we have a lot of Academy members who listen to our podcast. We feel very blessed in that we have, had a business that was able to adapt and pivot and it’s been really fun to see things start to open back up. I think we’re in this sort of wait and see situation with how things are in the world. But yeah, we just feel really blessed and very grateful. We’ve had a huge influx of members join our Academy this year we were having one of our best years ever, if not our best ever business wise. So, knock on wood, just super grateful. And, if you haven’t listened to the beginning of this podcast back in like episode one I think it was like episode one or two.

I tell our backstory and I will never forget when Paul and I were first married, we celebrated our 20 year wedding anniversary this year. And when we were first married back in 2001, I mean, we were truly living on love. We were sleeping on an air mattress for months. I remember the first dinner Paul made for me after we got married, we didn’t have a kitchen table. So we had like a cardboard box with like a white sheet. So every day I just feel so grateful for where we’ve been. And it’s just a reminder that things take time. You know, we are going into 2022. We celebrated our nine year business anniversary, our 20 year wedding anniversary. And it’s just a reminder of things take time. And I’m so grateful for the support of family and friends and so grateful for our health.

I think that’s been a big thing over the last two years. I think that was a big eye opener for a lot of people, is just being grateful for your health, taking care of your health as much as possible. So very, very grateful for that. Grateful for our two boys who are now 11 and 14, holy moly. Owen, my 14 year old is officially taller than me. He surpassed me this summer on vacation. I literally in the middle of our vacation, I looked at him, I said, wait a minute, you’re taller than me. Like this happened on vacation. And my youngest Luke is almost getting taller than me. So it’s really fun. They’re at an age where they’re not itty bitty and I have to say part of me misses that, but the other part of me just loves this age right now.

They’re at a really great spot. So we feel really, really blessed. We, you know, as the world started to open back up, we took a couple vacations that we had postponed. We went to Maui earlier this year, we did a trip to Pismo beach, which was one of our favorite places to go with my parents. Paul and I took a trip, just the two of us to New York City, which was super fun. Paul had never been to New York and so it was so, so fun to see it through his eyes and to also do all the touristy stuff that I had never done before. We did Central Park and went to a few Broadway shows and in a theater with other folks, seeing a Broadway show, it just brought tears to my eyes.

I just feel very grateful and very, very blessed. So it’s been quite a year and not everything’s perfect, obviously. Ups and downs happen with life, but it’s been really exciting to see. I would also say professionally, I’ve started doing in-person events again, kind of slowly dipping my toe into the water with in person events and that brought a little bit of trepidation and nervousness, but I’m excited to be doing those again. I also think too, it’s made me kind of rethink a little bit about priorities. What’s most important, what I enjoy doing and things like that. I will definitely continue speaking. I absolutely love doing that. There’s nothing like being in person.

But I also have to say, I don’t always like being on the road a ton. So, I think just picking and choosing and going back to prioritizing family and faith and what’s most important, striving for balance. I think balance is probably a little overrated, but striving for that. Also. So yeah, things are good and as we get into the holiday season, I’m just extremely grateful and I’m extremely grateful for you, our podcast listeners. We have been running this podcast for about three years now. As we go into the new year, it really warms my heart because the podcast has always been a place to talk about a variety of things.

Maybe you’ve seen me speak before or our YouTube channel for example, is all about social media, right? Tips and tools and strategies, and shameless plug feel free to subscribe to our YouTube channel over there. But the podcast was really born because I felt like I wanted a place to about things outside of just social media. We certainly talk a lot about social media. We have our Academy Spotlight series where we highlight our academy members. We talk about best practices with marketing, but it’s also been a real fun place to share some personal stories. We had a real focus this year on all different types of people and different voices. We had some great conversations this year, talking about diversity and inclusion, and accessibility.

So I would just encourage you if you just discovered our podcast recently, feel free to go back and see some of the episodes we did this year. You can also go to our website, just It’s going to have all the episodes there. So you can take a peek at that and going forward into 2022, we really took a hard look at what we wanted to do in terms of content. And so, going forward, we are still gonna be publishing the podcast. I will say it may not be every single week as we have in the past. And part of me says this as I’m like, oh my gosh, I’m a person who loves to be consistent and stick with something week in and week out.

But I also know that we put out a ton of content. If you follow me, you know, if you’re on our email list, for example, you know we put out a ton of content each and every week. Sometimes I feel like some of our content gets a little buried because there’s so much content. So we’re really focusing on, especially with the podcast in 2022, quality versus quantity. So you might see less episodes from us. We might only publish a couple times a month with the podcast, but I think that’ll really give us an opportunity to really kind of slice and dice some of our content and expand how we share it. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I go on Facebook and Instagram and there’s so much, and you have the best of intentions of watching something or listening to something, but then you get distracted or work happens, or life happens.

And then you forget about it, right? So we have so many great conversations that I want to really in 2022, be able to give, especially the episodes where we are interview folks and really highlighting different people. I want to really be able to give that some breathing room, if that makes sense. So that is the plan. And so, like I said, you might see us not post as much but it really depends. You know, we are continuing our academy spotlight series into 2022, and we will continue to be on the look out for people doing great things. And I love that the podcast can be a place where if something is on my heart or there’s something timely, it’s a great opportunity to share that. Also, I would love to get Paul on the podcast. I don’t know if he’s listening to this episode, but you know, he is my partner in life and partner in business.

I’m asked all the time about him. You know, Paul handles so much behind the scenes. I could not do what I do without him. He manages just so much. I’m smiling. And if he is listening to this, he probably is smiling too. There’s a lot that happens when you run a business, obviously. And I always say, I get to be the face of the company. I get to be the one coming up with Instagram Reels ideas and I’m the one doing content for our academy, but he’s behind the scenes doing a lot in terms of our finances and invoices and contracts and business development and customer service. So I would love to have him on and maybe we’ll have a few episodes.

And then lastly, I just would love to hear from you. Obviously you’re a podcast listener, maybe this is one of your first podcasts or maybe you’ve listened to all of our episodes. I am absolutely open to your feedback and ideas. So feel free to reach out to me as you’re listening to this, leave me a message, DM me on Instagram. You can email me. I check all my own email. I respond to all my own email, Katie at So let me know, is there someone you think would be great for the podcast? Is there an author or someone in real estate or someone in social media or just a topic you would like me to consider tackling, please reach out to me.

I absolutely love your feedback. And honestly, the best thing you can do, if you are a fan of the podcast is share it out. You know, we say this each and every week, but it’s really true. It makes a big difference. And I actually just did a post about this recently, right around small business Saturday. We had black Friday weekend and then it was small business Saturday. I mentioned one of the things that you can do to support small businesses, if you can’t support them financially, support them with social media, a like, a comment, a share. It really goes a long way. And you know, when you guys take a screenshot and you share it on your Instagram story and you tag me, or you share a link out on Facebook and you tag me, it just warms my heart, to be able to put something out there that is share worthy.

I just thank you so much for that in advance. So,  my friends, we are not gonna have episodes the last two weeks of the year. We’ve got Christmas and new year’s coming up, so this will be our last episode of 2022. I just want to thank you again from the bottom of my heart. I also want to thank our team. There are a number of people behind the scenes, who work with us now and have worked with us over the last few years, who aren’t actively part of our team at this time. It really takes a village and I’m so grateful for each and every person that we have interacted with, whether they are an employee, a freelancer that has worked with us, a contractor that’s worked with us, we’ve got a lot of behind the scenes that make this happen.

We have an amazing agency behind the scenes that helps make our podcast sound great. So we’re just so grateful for that because it takes a village. You can’t do it all. You just cannot do it all. So thankful for all the folks we’ve been able to work with and to interact with. And I’m grateful for you, our listeners. So thank you so much. I hope you have the happiest of holidays, however you celebrate, however you spend this time. Like I said, reach out to me. We’d love to hear your ideas and feedback, and I can’t wait for the new year. I am so excited 2022 is around the corner and shameless plug. I will say we are doing some really, really cool things with our Get Social Smart academy.

I know we have a lot of academy members who listen to our podcast, but if you’re listening to this and you are like, holy moly, I gotta get my act together with social media. We would love for you to check out the academy. Go to That is the way to work with me and to get access to me and our team and all of our training. So we have some really cool things coming up for next year. I can’t wait to share with you guys. All right, my friends have a wonderful rest of the year, cheers to you, and we’ll see you in 2022.
