How to Interview Someone on Facebook Live

#GetSocialSmart Show Episode 176

Have you thought about interviewing someone on Facebook Live but weren’t sure what to say? Here are some tips and my formula for interviewing someone and creating a great piece of content for your audience!

Tip 1: Schedule your Facebook Live in Advance

Schedule your broadcast in advance so you can promote it in advance! Check out this video for more tips on promoting your Facebook Live!

Tip 2: Send the Link to the Interviewee Ahead of Time

Email your interviewee ahead of time and send them the following info:

  • Link to the FB Live
  • Link how they can join
  • Tips for lighting and sound (i.e. be in a quiet space if possible!)
  • A reminder to show up early to test sound, lighting etc.

Tip 3: When You are Live Start Right Away

Get started right away and jump right in by welcoming people and introducing yourself and the topic you are covering. Introduce your guest and share 1-2 things about them. A great format to consider is to use their name last for example: “Our guest today is a leader in ___, wrote the book ____ and is well-known for ____. Please welcome, (NAME!)”

Tip 4: Have Questions Prepared Ahead of Time

Be prepared with what you want to ask and have 5-7 questions ready to go. Here are a few interview prompts:

  • Tell me about the time…
  • What’s the story…
  • What’s the inspiration for..
  • During your FB Live you can also ask your audience for their questions too!

Tip 5: Wrap it Up

Wrap it up with a call to action about where to contact your guest. Thank your audience and your guest and then end the broadcast!
