Today I want to share with you a few tips and reasons why you should be using IGTV, especially if you’re in real estate.
IGTV, what’s that? IGTV is Instagram TV and it came out about a year or so ago. It’s a stand alone app where you can upload up to 10 minutes worth of video content. Now, I have to admit, when IGTV first came out, we were putting video content over there and it was doing okay.
But then Instagram made a big change to its algorithm and one of the things that they’re doing recently is when you take a video and you upload it to IGTV, one of the newest features that you can implement is you can click a little button that says preview and you hit that little button that says preview and what that will do is actually share a preview of your video from IGTV over to Instagram. It’s a one-minute preview and that one-minute preview will appear in your newsfeed. It will appear on your page. It’s more likely to appear in the explore tab. What we’ve found is that we’re getting a lot of results from doing this. Previously where we’re getting maybe a couple hundred views on our videos from IGTV and now we’re getting thousands of views.
So I want to give you a couple of quick tips on how to make the most of this. Tip number one, repurpose existing content. If you’re already creating content on YouTube or Facebook, it’s probably horizontal, but you can repurpose that into vertical video. Now, we have a great video editor that we work with, but if that’s not in your budget, we recommend using the app called InShot. InShot is an awesome app that will easily take your horizontal video and make it vertical.
My second tip is to create unique content. So as you’re out and about show behind-the-scenes and you’ve got your phone handy, you can record just right on your phone that vertical video. You can also create content around information and answering questions. So those questions you get asked all the time, yeah, how do I declutter, should I sell before I buy, all these questions that we get asked about real estate. Make a list of those and that could be a great video, especially for IGTV.
Now, if you want to get fancy and edit those videos, there’s a great app called Splice. Splice is an awesome app to edit that video and make it really look great in that vertical feature. If you’re looking for some inspiration when it comes to IGTV, I want to give a shout out to two of our awesome #GetSocialSmart Masterminders, Betti Russo and Robyn Burdett. These two ladies are doing a great job over on Instagram TV. I encourage you to check out some of their content and get some inspiration.
Last but not least, I’ve got a bonus tip. As you start to put content over on IGTV, you’ll start to get traction. You’ll start to get more views, likes and comments. When you start to get comments, don’t just like those comments, but meaningfully comment back. Instagram likes when you have this two-way conversation. It shows that you’re active, that you’re engaged with your audience. So make sure you actively respond to those comments. It’s a small thing that makes a really big difference. Now, if you’re listening to this going, “This all sounds great, but Katie, I really need to get an overall strategy together when it comes to Instagram.” We have got a great free guide we would love for you to check out and download.
