The Truth About Instagram for Real Estate Pros

Have you been wondering how to grow your following over on Instagram? Today I’m going to share with you the truth about Instagram for real estate pros. Are you ready for a few truth bombs?

Truth bomb number one: Instagram is an aspirational platform. Yep, it’s an aspirational platform, which makes it perfect for real estate, because for most people, buying and selling a home is a huge moment in their life, right? It’s right up there with getting married or having kids. Buying a home. So think beyond the listing photo, which by the way is truth bomb number two.

Think beyond the listing photo, and think about all the beautiful things that you can share when it comes to your listings, not just the front of the home, but the different nuances like the awesome crown molding or the pool in the backyard. I don’t care if a home is a tiny little condo or if it’s a beautiful dream mansion. Every house has something that’s unique and different and interesting. And so, that is a great piece of content to share over on Instagram.

Now, by the way, one of the things I’m going to recommend when it comes to telling the truth here is to not just repurpose what you’re already posting in other platforms on Instagram. Now, what do I mean by that?

Well, you might have a beautiful flyer of your beautiful listing, but that doesn’t mean that flyer is going to look great on Instagram. Now, I get it. You’ve got this great flyer and you’ve already made it. So, why not just put it over on Instagram? Well, here’s the thing. If I have to pinch and zoom, you’ve already lost me.

Right? So you already have the photos. Take one or two or three of the best photos, put those on Instagram, take a little bit of that verbiage, put that on Instagram and then have the call to action be for people to contact you for more information.

So, a few truths: inspirational, aspirational as well as thinking about the listing photo.

Another big truth I’m going to share with you is highlight other people. This is a big, big tip. If you’ve been on Instagram for a while and maybe you’re kind of struggling with growing your following, highlight other people. Think about all the people we do business with, your lender, your stager, all the different people we interact with, and then in your community, all the great things in your town that you love. And I want to give a big shout out because I think that there’s someone in our Academy who recently did this really, really well.

Betty Russo is in our Academy. She also joined us for our Napa Mastermind this past year and she recently did a video that was awesome and it highlighted five of her most favorite restaurants. You can check out that video here.

What I love about that is that’s the video she put on YouTube and Facebook, but how she used it on Instagram was really unique. She showcased a shortened version of it, a one minute version of it. And then here’s the secret sauce: in the Instagram comments, she tagged each one of those restaurants and not surprising, she had great interaction from those businesses.

So, one of the best ways to use Instagram as well as any other platform is to highlight and shine the light on other people. Shine the light on other businesses, other companies, other people you work with. And it’s amazing what comes back to you when you come from a place of abundance, not scarcity.
