The Best Time of Day to Post to Social Media

#GetSocialSmart Show Episode 114 | March 5, 2019

Do you wonder what are the best times of day to post on social media? I can help!

Okay, two factors I want you to consider. The first factor is when are you on social media? For a lot of us, it’s moments in our day, right? So it might be in the morning as you’re drinking a cup of coffee and you’re scrolling through your Facebook feed, or maybe it’s lunchtime when you’re grabbing a quick bite to eat and you’re passively scrolling through Instagram or Facebook, or maybe it’s in the evening when you’re sitting down, 8 or 9pm, you’re watching The Bachelor.

So that’s the first thing to think about is when are you most active on social media? That’ll give you some great insight. Also, you want to think about how are most people consuming social media? For a lot of people, they’re doing it in between moments of their day. They’re standing in line at Starbucks, or they’re sitting in their car waiting to pick up their kids, and they’re kind of scrolling. Your content is sandwiched between the best friend and their sister or their family. You just keep that in mind.

The other factor to consider, when you think of the best time to post on social media is to look at the data. Look at your insights. Now here’s the good news. If you have a Facebook business page or an Instagram business account, you can look at your insights, and there’s some great analytics on when people are most active on Facebook. The way you do this is you want to go over to Facebook, go to your Facebook business page, click your business page, then click Insights, and then click Posts. So once again, Facebook business page, insights, then posts, and what you’ll see is a chart. That chart will show you the people who like your page and when they are most active on Facebook. For some of you, it might be Monday morning, it might be Tuesday evening or Saturday night, whatever it might be. But that insight will give you some great data when it comes to posting or scheduling content or even when you might do a Facebook Live. You can do the same thing over on Instagram. If you have an Instagram business account, you can look at your analytics and it’ll give you some great data on when are some of the best days and times to post to Instagram.
