The Shocking Mistake You May Be Making on Social Media

Today I’m going to share with you the big shocking secret that nobody is telling you about social media.

Lots of agents and brokers will reach out to me and they will say something like, ‘Katie, I just don’t have time for social media,’ or ‘It just takes too much time,’ or ‘ I’m so tired of the social media time vortex, I feel like it’s such a time suck.’

Here’s the honest truth; it’s not that you don’t have enough time, it’s that you don’t have a system. When it comes to the agents and brokers that we work with, that are getting 40, 50, 60% of their business or more from social media. I can tell you one of the number one things that they’re doing right, is they have a system and they’re treating social media just like any other part of their business.

When you think about being a business owner, whether you’re an individual agent or maybe you’re part of a team or maybe you’re a broker; think about the most successful areas of your business and I bet you, for a lot of those areas, you’ve systemized them. You have it organized, maybe you have a checklist, you have a way that you communicate with your buyers and your sellers and your clients. When we think of social media, instead of thinking of it as this add on or oh my gosh it takes so much time, I don’t have time for it. I encourage you to think about it as one more part of your marketing; as one more part of your communication; as one more part of your system to keep in touch with past clients and referrals.

If you’ve ever had that situation where you go to a grocery store and you run into a client you haven’t seen in a long time and they say something like, ‘Hey, are you still in real estate? We just bought a house.’

There’s nothing worse than that feeling if you’re a Realtor. One of the ways to avoid that is to get into a smart system of keeping in touch with your past clients and your sphere of influence, using social media in an authentic, genuine and systematic way. It’s also a great way to generate and attract the people you want to work with.
