One of the most important things when it comes to your social media strategy isn’t just posting content for the sake of posting content, but posting things that people really care about, posting things that are engaging that receive clicks or likes or comments or shares. And so, how do we find content that’s really engaging?
One of the big tips I can give you is look at your life as content. As you’re out and about, you’re working throughout your day and you’re working with clients or you’re driving down the street and you find something that’s really interesting. There’s always moments of opportunity to share something funny or poignant or interesting. Look for those moments of opportunity.
Typically the posts that get the most engagement are the posts that are really real and near and dear to our heart. So I encourage you to be vulnerable a little bit. Put yourself out there because sometimes when we come across a little bit too polished, a little bit too professional, we lose that personal touch. And when it comes to social media, that’s why people connect with us because of that personal touch. So look at your life as content. Look for moments of opportunity. Make sure you’re not just posting things that are business-related. Remember, social media is not a one-way street. It’s a two way street, so making sure that you’re sharing things that are really interesting and engaging and funny or poignant.
Also, one of the best ways to increase your engagement is to be interested in other people. So if you find that sometimes you’re posting things and not a lot of people are commenting or liking or engaging with your content, instead of posting something else, take a few minutes and be interested in other people. I’m a big believer in focus five where five times a day I focus on connecting with five different people on social media. Maybe it’s sending them a message on Facebook or sending them a tweet on Twitter or a snap on SnapChat, but connecting one-to-one, be interested in other people is one of the best ways to increase your engagement. And at the end of the day it’s one of the best ways to really make the most out of social media.
