How to Make the Most Out of LinkedIn | #GetSocialSmart Episode 039

Today I want to share with you three tips for making the most out of LinkedIn. Okay, I know LinkedIn’s not as fun as Facebook or Instagram or Snapchat, but LinkedIn is a really important social media platform. For a lot of people, LinkedIn has become the set it and forget it network, but I want to share with you a few things that can make a really big difference when it comes to LinkedIn.

First of all, video. LinkedIn is making some big changes when it comes to video and so, if you are thinking about video marketing in your content marketing plan for 2017, 2018 and beyond, really encourage you to look at what LinkedIn is doing when it comes to video. It’s a great place to repurpose your existing video content, as well as create some new content, especially professional content. Obviously, we’re not sharing cat videos on LinkedIn, but this is a place to really showcase your expertise, especially for my real estate friends and family who are watching, this is really the place to do some great videos that showcase your expertise about real estate, about housing, about the market, and about your local community.

My second tip for LinkedIn is use LinkedIn’s blogging capabilities.
You can blog right within LinkedIn and this is a really powerful tool. This is something that’s been around for a long time, but not enough people take advantage of it. Now, this isn’t the place to talk about your new widget, or what you’re selling, or your new listing, but it’s a great place, again, just like the video, it’s a great place to share your expertise, to share your opinion from a business, or a leadership point of view. In fact, you might even create some great video content and then repurpose that content into a blog post on LinkedIn. When you have a LinkedIn blog post, you can then share that outside of LinkedIn. It also stays on your LinkedIn profile, which is super powerful.

My third big tip when it comes to LinkedIn, is get recommendations. There’s nothing like social proof, and obviously there’s lots of places online we can get social proof from Yelp to Google to Zillow to everywhere in between, but there’s something really powerful about LinkedIn because it’s not just a real estate network, it is a business network. So how do you get recommendations? You give to get. Be a good finder. Look for opportunities in your business to give recommendations. Maybe it’s another agent in your last transaction, a client, your lender, your stager, your photographer, there’s sort of this cast of characters involved in every single transaction, and so think about who you can really reach out to, and leave a recommendation. So often they will turn around and give you one in return.

Those are my few quick tips when it comes to LinkedIn. I would love to hear from you. Are you using it for your business? Let me know. Leave us a comment below. As always, if you like this video, like, comment, share with a friend, heck, share it on LinkedIn, and for more information about LinkedIn, as well as other great social media tips, especially if you’re in real estate or mortgage, we would love to hear from you.
