How to Get More People to Read Your Blog | #GetSocialSmart Show Episode 030

How do you get more traffic to your blog? I’ve been blogging for years, and I want to share with you a few things that make a huge difference in getting people to read your blog and then take action to work with you or to subscribe to your list, whatever your call to action is.

Tip number one: Be consistent. Pick a day and time every single week that you’re going to create content and blog. What day are you going to publish that content? If you just blog every once in a blue moon, you’re not going to build that audience and you’re not going to get a lot of traction. I recommend once a week. For us, we blog every single week. Every Wednesday we have a new post that’s published. In the past we’ve picked Thursday. In the past it’s been other days, but whatever day works for you, pick a day, put it in your schedule, and then plan around that. You want to make sure you’ve got time to write the post or do the video, get it edited, get it up on your website, whatever that might be. So consistency number one is king.

Number two: You’ve got to be your own best promoter. It’s not enough just to write a great blog post and hope that people read it. So often I’ll see people who write something, they post it on Facebook once and that’s it. When we create a blog post, we send a dedicated email out to our database the next day with a link to that blog post. We send an email out a few days later, a whole email newsletter, and we include a link in there to that blog post. We post it to our Facebook business page. We boost that post. We share it in some of our Facebook groups. We share it again on Facebook a few months later. We tweet it five, 10, 20 times over the course of the first month or so. We share it on Instagram. We do an Instagram story about that blog post. We might do a SnapChat story. We might pin it to our Pinterest board.

So, not that you have to be everywhere, but if you are on multiple platforms it’s not about spray and pray, but it’s really about how can you be intentional and really share and slice and dice that post in a way that makes sense and repurpose that. Now, we’ve got some great videos here on how to repurpose content, so if you missed some of those make sure you watch those if you follow us on YouTube you can look at the playlist and there’s a great video, I think we actually have a couple videos on repurposing content, so you might want to go back to that episode.

So, number one, consistency, number two, be your own best promoter, and number three, you want to make sure you’ve got a call to action at the end of your blog post. So often I see someone at the end of blog post that will just sort of end. You’ve got to have a call to action. What do you want people to do? It could be as simple as, “Hey, what do you think? Leave me a comment below. Leave me a comment on my Facebook business page. I would love to hear from you. Call or text me at this number.” Whatever it might be, have a specific call to action to drive that traffic.

Blogging is one of the best ways to build traction. There’s nothing like sharing your expertise, your knowledge, and your opinion. Which, by the way, that’s going to be my bonus tip here in this video. Don’t be vanilla. Have an opinion. People will read and share your content not just because it’s interesting, but because you have an opinion and they resonate with you. Having an opinion is really, really key.

As always, if you like this video, we would love if you like, comment, share, let us know what you think and leave us a comment below. Thank you so much, and we’ll see you soon.
